Marathon Pledges $1.5 Million to Hurricane Ike and Gustav Relief Efforts
Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO)
announced today that the Company will contribute $1.5 million to the American
Red Cross in support of Hurricanes Ike and Gustav relief efforts. One million
dollars will be allocated to Hurricane Ike, with the remaining $500,000
targeted for ongoing Hurricane Gustav relief efforts. The Company is also
closely monitoring the needs of its employees in the areas that are expected
to be impacted by Hurricane Ike, and is prepared to provide assistance to
these employees and their families as soon as the storm passes.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the communities along the Texas and
Louisiana Gulf Coast as we brace for Hurricane Ike. While we do not yet know
the full extent of the damage this dangerous storm will cause, early
predictions of a potentially severe impact to our region have prompted us to
come forward with this initial contribution to help ensure our community has
the resources necessary to respond to the needs of our neighbors," said
Clarence P. Cazalot, Jr., president and CEO of Marathon. "Our Marathon family
is committed to providing assistance to those who will be impacted by Ike, and
we also want to assist in the ongoing relief efforts in Louisiana in the wake
of Hurricane Gustav."
Marathon has significant onshore and offshore operations in the Gulf Coast
region, including refineries in Texas City, Texas, and Garyville, La., as well
as pipeline and oil and natural gas production and processing facilities.
