 Petroleum Pitch is a unique precursor to the carbon industry. It is used in the manufacture of carbon products like graphite electrodes, carbon anodes, sealers and coatings, driveway sealers, carbon/carbon composite products and carbon fibers. It is also used as a binder for other industries such as refractory applications, building materials and clay pigeons used for target shooting.
Production Information
Marathon Petroleum Company LLC (MPC) produces petroleum pitch at its Catlettsburg, KY refinery using a unique, proprietary process. Specialty liquid and solid pitches are produced in Cincinnati, OH. Pitch is available in both liquid or solid form.
Transportation
Liquid and other specialty pitches are shipped via heated truck or railcar from both Catlettsburg, KY and Cincinnati, OH. Solid pitch and other specialty pitches are shipped via truck, railcar and ocean container from Cincinnati, OH.
